Assumptions
Require RAD:Enhancing coordination and communication among campus and local responders is essential in campus sex crimes. [2]
Promoting education on sex crimes for students, faculty, and staff strengthens the institutional response to such crimes. [2] Rape victims are far more likely to develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression than other victims of crime. [2] In the face of an attacker, fighting back is based on split secont assessment of the aggressor and is a test of individual physical and psychological capability. [1] All female students will take the course. Female students at NMU need the course, as the reason it is required. All female students will understand the techniques taught and be able to perform in any given situation. |
Do Not Require RAD:Most campus sexual assaults are committed by an acquaintance of the victim rather than by a stranger. This makes it among the most difficult of crimes to prove because oftentimes little evidence is available to show that nonconsensual sexual contact occured. Campus police agencies sometimes lack the specialized training needed to investigate these complex cases. [2]
Certain sex crimes reported to the college or university, that constitute a violation in the school's student code of conduct, requires the school to take immediate action. However, rape is the most underreported violent crime. [2] Nearly 2/3 women victims of violence know their attackers, and 1/3 know them well. [1] Equating masculinity with strength and control and femininity with weakness and acquiescence offers rationale for violence against women. This value system assumes victims of rape and domestic violence are purely a result of this stigma. [1] |
